At CHARK Studio, we decided to join forces with some devs from another local studio Moonleaf Studio. We wanted to see what kind of game we could release in a really short timeframe of about 2 months.
We came up with an idea of a simple walking horror-sim, where we could explore various, non-conventional science fiction ideas about extraterrestrial beings. The goal was to present how a giga-advanced entity might interact with us by constructing simulated environments for us to explore as we go. A good example of what tech level we aimed for is the Arrival film.
One neat trick I learned in this jam was how you can stitch together scenes very easily by fading out the screen and presenting the next level in just right color. Using additive scene loading really helps with this if you’re using Unity.
I also overused teleportation a lot. Some of the game-levels seem infinite however, it’s a simple teleport to the opposite side of the level with some clever placement of objects to trick you into thinking that the world never ends :D
